Rename the user folder Go to C:\Users\OldName → rename to C:\Users\NewName .
Not directly. OneDrive can back up Desktop, Documents, Pictures, but the root user folder ( C:\Users\YourName ) must stay local for Windows to function.
Only attempt if you have experience with the Registry and file permissions.
Ideally, Windows 11 would decouple the display name of the folder from the actual SID and internal folder structure. Just as a user can rename a file without changing its underlying data, they should be able to rename their profile folder in the GUI without breaking their user session. However, Microsoft has shown little interest in addressing this, likely because the current architecture ensures backward compatibility with legacy software that expects rigid folder structures.
