Megan Phelps-Roper was born in 1986 in Topeka, Kansas, to Fred Phelps and Shirley Phelps-Roper, two of the most prominent members of the Westboro Baptist Church (WBC). The WBC, a fringe Christian organization founded by Fred Phelps, gained international notoriety for its vehement protests, particularly at military funerals, to denounce what it perceived as the immorality of the United States and its involvement in conflicts abroad.
