The origins of Max/MSP date back to the 1980s, when Miller Puckette created the original Max program at IRCAM (Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique) in Paris. The software quickly gained popularity among musicians and composers, who used it to create interactive music and multimedia performances.
