Long before Artboards became standard in Photoshop and Illustrator, Fireworks had "Pages." You could design your entire website—Home, About, Contact—all within a single PNG file. Each page could have its own sub-layers and "States" (for rollovers and hover effects). This made prototyping user interactions incredibly fast.
