As web standards evolve, the traditional HTTP captive portal is slowly being supplemented by newer technologies. (Captive-Portal Identification in DHCP) and RFC 8952 (Captive-Portal API) allow modern operating systems (iOS, Android, Windows 10+) to detect a captive portal without breaking encrypted connections. The OS can automatically open the WebUI in a sandboxed browser, improving user experience.
