Two possibilities:
Windows 11 attempts to install drivers automatically via Windows Update. However, AMD chipset drivers are often considered "optional" or "hardware-specific" updates that Windows Update sometimes misses during the initial setup. The generic Microsoft driver used for basic functionality does not always recognize the specific ID AMDI0204 , leaving the device flagged as unknown in Device Manager.
Even if you have already installed chipset drivers, you may need to reinstall them to properly register this specific ACPI device.
Right-click the (ACPI\AMDI0204) and select Update driver . Choose "Browse my computer for drivers" .
In modern laptops and desktops (especially those with AMD Ryzen processors), the GPIO controller acts as a traffic cop. It handles simple signaling tasks, such as telling the system when a lid is closed, managing thermal sensors, or waking the system from sleep. Without the correct driver, Windows knows "something" is there (hence the "Unknown Device"), but it doesn't know how to talk to it.
